Director of Audience Engagement

Lead audience engagement and content strategy which resulted in KMHD growing from No. 22 station in the Portland market to No. 8 in the market over a 2-year period. Apply extensive journalistic knowledge to manage production of content across KMHD platforms, including website, App, social media, email, etc. to reach, grow and engage new and target audiences.

  • Led relaunch of KMHD mobile app and website, working with outside vendors on UX design, added features and app marketing. Relaunch resulted in a 720% increase in mobile users over a 12-month period. KMHD.org saw a 53% increase in the number of users over the same period.

  • Leverage experience as cross-team communicator to ensure company-wide collaboration and evolution of KMHD content, products and resources.

  • Led business negotiations with internal executives and stakeholders on KMHD 5-year investment plan, growing staff of 3 FTE to 9 FTE.

  • Developed, managed and executed audience engaging marketing initiatives, including PDX International airport campaign, giving visibility to KMHD Radio at one of the top airports in the country.

Led strategy and implementation of standard newsroom procedures, including breaking news and election cycle procedures, orchestrating Oregon Public Broadcasting's transformation from audio-first newsroom, to a digital first newsroom. Managed team of journalists, fostering growth while ensuring execution of editorial strategy.

  • Curated, managed and oversaw digital presence at OPB.org, including website and platforms, resulting in 25% growth each year and culminating with a 147% growth of website users in first year of relaunched website.

  • Was responsible for creating atmosphere of collaboration during website redesign, working cross-functionally with newsroom executives, journalists and outside vendors to meet deadlines and ensure audience facing success.

  • Served as internal trainer of ARC CMS software after formal training was nixed by pandemic. OPB.org relaunch date was not compromised by lack of vendor training.

  • Created, streamlined and managed social media platforms, resulting in a new OPB Instagram page with over 10K followers in the first year. Also, created and managed OPB's first ever newsletter, First Look, acquiring over 10K sign ups in first year of existence.

  • Served as OPB digital strategy expert when presenting at external events, including National Association of Black Journalists conference, SXSW and Airship company panel.

  • Wrote breaking news articles and wrote and reported in-depth feature stories focused on art, culture and race in the Pacific Northwest. Served as producer on each story, adding multimedia produced stories for an evolving audience of mobile users.
